Awareness Cum Training Center on
Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) Technologies
World Renewal Spiritual Trust (WRST) under
UNDP-GEF assisted Concentrated Solar Heat Project, of
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE),
Government of India at
"India One" Solar Thermal Power Plant, Abu Road (Raj.)
In 2014 World Renewal Spiritual Trust (WRST) was awarded with an assignment for Development of Awareness Cum Training Centre on Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) Technologies under United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Global Environment Facility (GEF) assisted Concentrated Solar Heat Project of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India. The CST Center is located at“India One” Solar Thermal Power Plant in Abu Road, Rajasthan.
One is to create awareness among various groups of stakeholders from industries, institutions & commercial establishments with the aim to generate proposals for installations of CST based systems at their establishments. To facilitate that purpose, CST Center in Abu organizes CST Awareness Seminars for interested end users and entrepreneurs with live demonstration of CST technologies. During the 2 day seminar program, participants can explore and deepen their knowledge on available CST technologies and their applications with the support of practical case studies; they can learn how to determine the best system design for their requirements and can get acquainted with the relevant MNRE, UNDP-GEF policies and support.
Presentations and interactive sessions are being conducted by UNDP-GEF, MNRE officials, CST experts with long field experience, CST system providers & users and academic staff. Program agenda includes also visits to number of CST based applications of Brahma Kumaris in Abu Road and Mt Abu, where solar heat is being generated and used for various institutional applications such as cooking, laundry, sterilization of instruments in the hospital.
Secondly, the CST Center aims also at supporting the capacity building of CST manufacturers and entrepreneurs in the area of CST quality especially in the field of mirror reliability, durability, performance improvements, manufacturing skills, customization of end user products / systems etc. To facilitate that purpose, CST Center in Abu organizes CST Technology Trainings for manufacturers and entrepreneurs with the live demonstration of CST technologies. During the 3 day training program, participants can explore and gain practical experience on 16 SQM Scheffler paraboloid reflector – its concept, design, fabrication and installations aspects. Training is a fusion of theoretical and practical field sessions. Sessions are conducted by experts having long time association and practical experience with Scheffler elliptical dishes.
Program agenda includes such topics as: concept design of Scheffler dish; its history and development; layout of installation for various latitudes; determining the exact E-W line; setting frame to equinox; mirror cutting, edge grinding and mirror fixing; erection of rotating support; output calculation and output testing; concept and design of electrical tracking mechanism, manufacturing aspects etc. On the other side, visits to number of CST based applications of Brahma Kumaris in Abu Road and Mt Abu are included, where solar heat is being generated and used for various institutional applications such as cooking, laundry or sterilization of instruments in the hospital. At every program, there is a member of UNDP-GEF CSHP Project Management Unit, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India available to present and discuss UNDP-GEF policies and available support.

As proven by programs already conducted, CST Seminars and Trainings create an excellent platform for networking and relationship building within the CST field in India.
The Seminars and Trainings are offered free of charge under the UNDP-GEF CSH Project of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India. Lodging & boarding, local conveyance and training materials will be provided free of charge by the CST Center. Travelling costs to and from the seminar venue are borne by the participants.
To provide the optimal learning conditions, the number of seats is limited. The registration will be done on first-cum-first-serve basis.
